GABBEH RUGS

A Gabbeh is a kind of Persian rug which is hand-woven. Gabbehs have typically long pile up to two or more inches and it is not tightly knotted like Persian rug. Gabbehs are woven in Southern Iran. Gabbehs rugs are thicker than the handmade rug and at a time also used for sleeping. Due to its simple design they are completely fit to use in for interiors. Gabbehs are very colorful and exceptionally beautiful and unique. Gabbeh rugs are available with a herd of camels and other with trees and also had wine glasses positioned right next to the human beings on the rug. Some of the older Gabbehs were woven with un-dyed wool, the colors of these being ivories, beiges and browns .You can not get these un-dyed rugs easily in the market but rarely.
An Indo-Gabbeh is copied from India and these rugs are much stiffer in body and usually have very little, if any color variation, which comes from the hand-spun wool used in the Persian Gabbehs.


The descendants of Turkic speaking peoples weave Gabbeh rugs. The best Gabbehs, woven with beautiful hand-spun Persian wool come from the areas near the Zagros Mountains in Southern Iran. Mostly these rugs are at home and it shows the unique art of the weaver.
